Job Summary
Reporting to the Associate Vice President for Administration and
Finance (AVP), the Director of Culinary Services (Director) is
responsible for providing comprehensive leadership, vision,
supervision and support to the Culinary Services team while
developing a long-term strategic plan to increase satisfaction of
services and increase income from contract, license, and in-house
food services. In support of these goals, the Director works to
meet established budgetary guidelines while providing excellent
customer service. The Director is responsible for providing the AVP
with information, managing the operational budget and is
responsible for meeting operational targets. The Director has
direct supervision responsibilities for various members of the
Culinary Services team, which includes management, staff and
student employees. The incumbent works collaboratively with various
departments on campus to strive to build positive public relations
and customer and employee satisfaction. As a member of the Culinary
management team, the Director is responsible for promoting high
quality food service standards that meet or exceed the County's
Health and Safety guidelines.
The Director is a member of the division's management team, which
is committed to shared governance and participative management.
Key Qualifications
This position requires a minimum of 5 years of experience in
university, hotel or workplace food and beverage operations,
including 7 years of progressively responsible and applicable
management and/or supervisory experience. Bachelor's degree in
hospitality management or related service fields, or equivalent
combination of education and experience to provide the required
knowledge, skills and abilities to perform the duties of the
position. Financial experience with successful history of
developing budgetary guidelines and meeting fiscal projections is
required. Knowledge of contemporary food service trends,
contemporary marketing trends, and knowledge of health and safety
requirements required. Experience working in a union environment, a
highly decentralized environment and/or a multi-unit food and
beverage operation (university, workplace, resort, convention) is
highly preferred. Intermediate proficiency with computers and
Microsoft Office (Word, Excel) is required. Knowledge of Google
Suite, Appetize POS, Transact, Caterease, and PeopleSoft systems is
preferred. The incumbent must possess and/or obtain and thereafter
maintain a food management certification which has been accredited
by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) or the
Conference for Food Protection (CFP).
Salary and Benefits
Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience
and is anticipated to be in the range of $4,583 to $9,917 a month.
This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and
serves at the pleasure of the President.
This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including
medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement
(CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14
paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days
and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the
year.
