Director of Employee and Labor Relations (Administrator II) This position is open until filled. Job Summary Reporting to the Senior Associate Vice President for University Personnel, the Director of Employee and Labor Relations provides administrative leadership and direction for the Employee Relations and Compliance Services Department. This includes providing vision, innovation, and strategic organizational and managerial leadership to the campus community on labor and employee relations related functions. This position also provides direction and support for compliance with laws, regulations, Collective Bargaining Agreements (CBAs) and human resource policies impacting students, staff and faculty. In addition, the incumbent interfaces with campus managers, staff, faculty, labor representatives, university legal counsel, academic personnel, other university personnel staff, as well as individuals at the California State University (CSU) Office of the Chancellor, other campuses within the CSU, and external entities, agencies, and individuals as appropriate. The Director of Employee and Labor Relations is a member of the University's and Administration and Finance Division's management team, which is committed to the principles of shared governance and participative management, and supports the Administration and Finance Division Mission and Core Values. Key Qualifications This position requires a bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in human resource management, business, law, industrial relations or other related field, and a minimum of five years of progressively responsible labor relations experience including labor management, employee relations, complaint investigation, resolving union grievances and conducting dispute resolution in both union and non-union environments. Any equivalent combination thereof of education and professional experience to perform the duties of the position as described above will be considered. Higher education experience, public law litigation experience in PERB law and practice, JD or other professional degree and learning and development experience preferred. The incumbent must demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills along with experience providing customer service in a diverse, at times demanding, work environment. This position requires solid computer skills including, but not limited to, advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and using the internet as a research tool. Google Suite preferred. Salary and Benefits Starting salary placement depends on qualifications and experience and is not expected to exceed $10,417 a month. This position is a member of the Management Personnel Plan and serves at the pleasure of the President. This position is eligible for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision, life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal Holiday that may be taken any time during the year.
