Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs This position is

Summary Reporting to the President, the Provost also serves as the
Vice President for Academic Affairs and the university's Chief
Academic Officer, working with the president, deans, faculty,
staff, and students to provide vision, leadership and overall
management and direction for and within Academic Affairs. The
Provost supervises the activities of the Dean of the Library, as
well as the deans for the six schools (Arts and Humanities,
Business and Economics, Education, Extended & International
Education, Social Sciences and Science and Technology) and has
broad responsibilities for the planning, development and
administration of the university's educational programs and
services. The Provost also functions as the University's executive
officer when the President is absent from campus. Working
collaboratively with the campus community, the Provost's duties
focus on efforts tied to improving the student educational
experience, student retention, graduation rates, and other
contributing factors tied to student success. As Chief Academic
Officer, the Provost ensures the academic integrity of the
university and supports innovations in programs and methods of
delivery that respond in a timely manner to a rapidly changing
environment and student needs. The Provost provides leadership,
vision, direction and advocacy for a comprehensive array of
programs, including: Academic Programs, Undergraduate and Graduate
Studies, Faculty Affairs, Research and Sponsored Programs, Academic
Resources, Reporting and Analytics, and SSU's Field Stations and
Preserves. In addition, the Provost provides leadership, vision,
direction and advocacy for strategic priorities for Academic
Affairs including faculty development, international academic
activities and the university's efforts to strive for excellence in
diversity and inclusion. The Provost fosters excellence in
teaching, research, and creative activity throughout the
university, working with business, community and educational
leaders to ensure that existing partnerships continue to thrive and
enhance the economic vitality of the region, and demonstrating
collegial, collaborative, and transparent values to lead
effectively in a strong shared-governance environment. As a member
of the President's Cabinet, the Provost participates in strategic
planning, policy formulation, budgetary decisions and problem
solving, and offers advice and counsel on the implications of
institutional decisions on both the academic program and the
student experience. Key Qualifications An earned doctorate or an
appropriate terminal degree and significant accomplishment in the
areas of teaching and scholarly activity at a level commensurate
with appointment to a full professor in an academic department at
Sonoma State University is required. The Provost must also possess
successful progressive administrative experience in higher
education with demonstrated achievement in the management of
curriculum, academic personnel, budget administration, and
long-range planning. Must be able to show a demonstrated commitment
to and an understanding of the core mission of a liberal arts and
sciences institution with selected professional programs, as well
as a successful track record demonstrating an ability to work
effectively in an environment that relies on collegiality and
consultative decision-making. Must also have a demonstrated track
record for success working with student leaders and embracing the
principles of shared governance. Proven experience illustrating an
ability to provide effective academic leadership and management
within a complex academic institution, including strategic and
academic planning, an understanding and direct knowledge of
assessment and accreditation processes, implementation and
evaluation of educational effectiveness and demonstrated leadership
at a policy-making level. The Provost must possess significant
experience with developing student success initiatives, using data
to measure outcomes and success and allocating resources
appropriately to improve student performance, including graduation
rates, time to completion and retention. Successful experience with
community engagement and external fundraising; proven experience
demonstrating evidence of commitment to educational equity and a
university community that values diversity, inclusion, and
pluralism, and the ability to connect these values to the
curriculum; ability to provide leadership in the use of technology
and information systems to support teaching, learning, research,
and administration. Knowledge and understanding of the changing
landscape within higher education and the pillars of influence that
are impacting change. Salary and Benefits Salary is commensurate
with knowledge, skills, and experience. This position is eligible
for a broad range of benefits, including medical, dental, vision,
life and disability insurances, retirement (CalPERS), tuition
waiver, vacation and sick leave. In addition, 14 paid holidays are
offered each year; 13 scheduled on specific days and a Personal
